On Friday 19 January from 10.00 to 11.00, we are jointly organising with BDO Private Client Services the webinar 'A look ahead to 2024: what are the expectations for the crypto market and tax legislation?'

In previous years, BDO and Amdax have organised an end-of-year webinar covering a variety of current affairs surrounding crypto assets and tax legislation. Due to the many positive reactions, it was decided to organise this webinar again. Whereas previous years the webinar took place at the end of the year, it has been decided to do so now on 19 January 2024. This gives us the opportunity to look ahead with you at what lies ahead for crypto.

The year 2023 has noticeably brought a more positive sentiment in the crypto world. For instance, bitcoin showed a return above USD 40,000 in December, its highest level since January 2021. Also, 2023 was the year when the European Commission implemented the long-awaited Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCAR), an important step in regulating the crypto market. We also saw the start of the race for the first spot bitcoin ETF, an initiative by large institutional investors. Marcel Burger, CIO at Amdax, will share his insights on these developments and our expectations for 2024. How will Amdax position itself in this market? And can we expect a continuation of the positive trend?

There are also several developments in taxation. For instance, at the start of 2024, we will know what deluge of announced bills have taken effect from 1 January 2024. Consider the proposed rate increase in Box 3 to 36%. 2024 is also the year to prepare yourself for open family funds and open limited partnerships becoming transparent. The assets of these entities will be taxed in box 3 from 1 January 2025. Family funds are set up partly to protect assets. Does a transparent family fund still provide sufficient protection or are there alternatives? Marcel Koeslag discusses measures you may be able to take because of this ever-changing legislation in box 3.
